During the 2020-2021 academic school year, the nation was faced with a difficult task. The method to educating students would have to be changed and modified due to the COVID outbreak and health and safety concerns. Many teachers were not trained in hybrid instruction and remote learning stratagies. The IDT training allowed me to amend my teaching approach and continue assising my students during that mysterious time.
With the winter Holidays approaching, my program decided to produce a video and present it to families. We finished the video production and realized that the project was NOT suitable for elementary students. They could not read. So I asked two students to record voice-overs of them reading the descriptions for the video panels. We took the recorded voice overs and placed them into Adobe Premiere. The video was then uploaded to YouTube and was made accessible to all of our community – especially through our band website. We titled it The Holiday Tour, a concert we were to perform for our students that feed our school band program.
My role was:
Record video and sound of 8th grade and high school band students performing selections the band would have played for our Holiday tour.
Using two video cameras, we videoed and produced our songs to the best of our COVID abilities while trying to perform with masks and in tight proximity with other students.
We videoed student groups performing instrumental selections that highlight specific instruments.
The video was then storyboarded, and descriptions were written about the selections and of the student group performances.
Realizing a mistake made in regarding elementary students and the reading abilities we had to edit with recorded dialog for description panels.
We presented this Adobe Premiere project with great appreciation. It was successful and fun. We were able to highlight our students and provide a video they could share and keep for years to come.
